PenIt AI ("the App") — this policy explains what data the App collects, how it's used, and who it's shared with.

What We Collect

When you record a lecture or note, the App captures audio from your device's microphone. That audio is streamed to Deepgram (our speech-to-text provider) to generate a transcript, and the resulting transcript is sent to Anthropic (our AI provider) to generate a summary, quiz questions, and flashcards.

Raw audio is not stored by the App after a recording session ends. Transcripts, summaries, quizzes, and flashcards are stored locally on your device.

Third-Party Services

• Deepgram — processes audio to produce a text transcript. See Deepgram's privacy policy.
• Anthropic (Claude) — processes transcript text to generate summaries, quizzes, and flashcards. See Anthropic's privacy policy.
• Apple (StoreKit) — handles subscription purchases and billing. PenIt AI does not receive or store your payment information; that's handled entirely by Apple.

What We Don't Do

We do not sell your data. We do not use your recordings or transcripts for advertising. We do not share your data with any party other than the service providers listed above, which process it solely to provide the App's core functionality.

Data Retention & Deletion

Notes, transcripts, and AI-generated content are stored locally on your device and are removed when you delete a note in the App, or when you delete the App itself. We do not maintain a separate copy of your notes on our own servers.

Children's Privacy

The App is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect data from children under 13.

Changes to This Policy

We may update this policy from time to time. Continued use of the App after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.

Subscriptions

PenIt AI offers optional auto-renewing subscriptions for premium features, billed through your Apple ID. Subscriptions renew automatically unless cancelled at least 24 hours before the end of the current period. Manage or cancel your subscription in your device's Settings → Apple ID → Subscriptions.

Acceptable Use

You agree to use the App only for lawful purposes, and to respect the privacy and consent of anyone whose voice you record. You are responsible for ensuring you have the right to record any audio you capture using the App, including compliance with any applicable recording-consent laws in your jurisdiction.

Transcripts and AI-generated summaries, quizzes, and flashcards are produced automatically and may contain errors. The App is provided "as is" without warranties of any kind.
